These terms govern your use of Madeleine, a French vocabulary learning app published by Madeleine ("we", "us", "our"). By using Madeleine, you agree to these terms.

Account

Madeleine requires Sign in with Apple. You are responsible for maintaining access to your Apple ID. We cannot recover accounts or data if you lose access to your Apple ID.

Subscriptions

Madeleine offers a free tier and a paid subscription called Madeleine Max.

Free tier: Access to Stage 1 vocabulary and the demo story.
Madeleine Max: Access to all 8 vocabulary stages and daily AI-generated stories.

Both monthly and yearly plans include a 1-month free trial for new subscribers. After the trial ends, you will be charged at the standard rate unless you cancel before the trial period expires.

Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID and managed entirely by Apple. You can cancel anytime in your device's Settings under Subscriptions. Refunds are handled by Apple per their refund policy.

Content

Vocabulary content, example sentences, and daily stories are provided for educational purposes. Stories are generated using AI and may occasionally contain inaccuracies or unnatural phrasing. We make reasonable efforts to ensure quality but do not guarantee linguistic perfection.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of the app or its server components.
Use the app's API endpoints outside of the official Madeleine app.
Interfere with or disrupt the app's infrastructure.

Intellectual property

Madeleine, its design, vocabulary content, and branding are owned by Madeleine. The vocabulary content bank, example sentences, and story generation prompts are proprietary.

Disclaimer

Madeleine is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free content, or specific learning outcomes. Your use of the app is at your own risk.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Madeleine shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of Madeleine.

Account deletion

You may delete your account at any time from Settings within the app. Deletion permanently removes all your data — including local learning progress, cached stories, and server-side authentication tokens — and cannot be undone.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of Madeleine after changes constitutes acceptance.
